A Few Reflections on Becoming New

Picture
A Radical Reimagining (Dominoes)

We can easily live our life from one
day to the next and one event
to the next. And so the months
and years go by. It’s almost like
a set of dominoes that
are falling one after another.

But what if we were to pause today
and have a radical reimagining
of our life. It doesn’t have to follow
past patterns or expected behaviours.
If we were starting over again
from here, this is what we would be.

Of course we can look for reasons
or excuses as to why we can’t
do this. Or we can begin today
with this new template in mind.
And we can move ourselves
closer to who we really are.

Our future isn’t determined
by our past, but by today.
And maybe it’s time for a
radical reimagining of all we
truly are. Maybe it’s time
for a new game of dominoes.

Recycle

The broom is put away.
It is old and worn out.
But it does not sit there
gathering dust in the corner.

It is recycled. And our broom
becomes new. It not only has
a new purpose. It is something
completely different.

Basement Conversion

When we reimagine our
new life we can easily forget
about the process we need
to go through to get there.

It’s like a basement conversion.
Knocking down walls, new
support beams, and more
windows to let in the light.

But there’s dust everywhere.
It’s noisy. And our usual routine
is decimated. We try to live
normally through all of this.

We have to stick with it, keep
pushing forward and keep our
eyes on the beautiful new room
that will emerge.

So this is where I am. In the
middle of the dust and the
rubble. Trying to rebuild when
I’m still knocking down

Sometimes in the middle of
the process, amongst the
knocking down and rebuilding,
it’s hard to see the final picture.

But the process contains the
link between past and future
as well as the elements of
transition. For it is all one.

It is something to be cherished
for it is the birthplace of a
new beginning. And many are
working to make this happen.
